Confirm the symptom
We start where you started — what you saw, when it began, whether anything changed. Intermittent faults are solved by history as often as by instruments.
Test the system under load
Readings at the air handler, at the condenser, and at the thermostat, with the system running. A system that is 'working' at idle can still be failing at 3pm in August.
Isolate the actual failure
A tripped float switch is a symptom of a blocked drain. A burned contactor is a symptom of something else drawing too much. We look for the cause, not just the part.
Quote, then repair
You see the price and the reasoning before we start. If the honest answer is that the repair is not worth doing, we say so and show you the arithmetic.

Salt-air corrosion on coastal condensers
Within a few miles of the water, condenser coils and electrical contacts corrode measurably faster. It changes what fails, how early, and whether a coil is worth repairing.
Drain lines are the usual suspect
Warm, humid air over a cold coil produces a lot of condensate, and biological growth in the drain line is the single most common reason a Southwest Florida system shuts itself down or leaks.
Attic air handlers in 130-degree attics
A lot of local equipment lives in an unconditioned attic. Heat there shortens the life of capacitors and control boards, and it makes a small duct leak expensive.
Systems that never get a break
Cooling load here runs most of the year. Equipment accumulates run-hours faster than the same model would further north, and maintenance intervals should reflect that.
Questions
About ac repair
My system is frozen — should I turn it off?
If you can see ice on the refrigerant lines or the indoor coil, switching the system to OFF and leaving the fan running will let it thaw, which we will need anyway before anything can be tested. Do not try to chip or melt the ice. Book the visit while it thaws.
Can you tell me what's wrong over the phone?
We can usually tell you what it is not, and roughly what the visit will involve. We will not quote a repair sight-unseen — a phone diagnosis is a guess with a price attached, and it is how people end up paying for parts they did not need.
What if the repair isn't worth it?
Then that is what the report says. We show the repair cost, the age and condition of the equipment, and what replacement would involve, and you decide. There is no obligation attached to the diagnostic.
Do you work on systems you didn't install?
Yes. Most repair calls are on equipment installed by someone else, and it makes no difference to how the visit runs.
